There's a moment in every KOEDN design consultation where the homeowner describes the space and adds the qualifier: 'but I'm not sure it's possible.' Usually it is. Sometimes it requires a specific product configuration. Occasionally it requires engineering that other structures simply can't do.
These are six of those spaces — real Brisbane residential and SEQ projects, each with a constraint that ruled out the standard options. What happened after is the reason KOEDN exists.
The double carport that couldn't touch the slab
A double carport for two additional vehicles behind an existing double garage — with no post penetrating the existing concrete slab, and no visible baseplates on the driveway surface. A standard carport solution would have required either slab penetration or surface-mounted plates in the open driveway — both rejected.
The iKOE columns were positioned in the garden bed at the property boundary — completely clear of the driveway slab. Concrete-free footings were used, eliminating the need for any slab penetration. The cantilever arms spanned the full 6×6m double carport width from the garden edge, leaving the driving and parking area entirely unobstructed.
A straight-edge waterproof membrane was specified between the columns for additional coverage. The baseplates were buried in the garden bed — invisible from the driveway.
Two additional vehicles protected. No post in the travel zone. No slab penetrated. Baseplates hidden entirely in the garden. The driveway looks exactly as it did — except now everything's covered.

The outdoor space that became a room
An outdoor space next to the pool — exposed, unusable through summer, not connected to anything. The brief: create a proper outdoor living room. No fascia attachment, no shared waterproofing risk. And no posts blocking the openings from the home to the yard.
A freestanding iKOE 6×6 waterproof structure — no wall attachment, no fascia connection. The columns were positioned to keep the sight lines from the home's openings completely unobstructed. The space in front of those openings stayed open. The coverage went exactly where it was needed.
The colour selection was considered: a deep blue-black membrane combination that the client had a strong aesthetic vision for. The result is a space that looks architectural, not like a shade structure was added as an afterthought.
An exposed, unusable outdoor space is now a covered entertainment room used year-round. No connection to the roof. No posts blocking the home's outlook. A structure that looks like it was designed with the house — because it was specified that way.

Two structures, one waterfront property
A large waterfront home with multiple outdoor spaces needing coverage: a 5×5m living zone and a longer, non-square 10×4.5m run for an adjacent area. Common to both: no wall connection to the house. Unobstructed views from every point on the property — to the water, to the garden, in all directions.
Two freestanding KOEDN structures specified independently. The 5×5 iKOE single covered the primary outdoor living zone. The 10×4.5 iKOE Multiportal — a non-square configuration requiring a customised span — covered the second area. The modular Multiportal system allowed KOEDN to accommodate the non-standard geometry that a fixed-size product couldn't match.
Multiple previously unused outdoor spaces on a waterfront property are now fully covered, waterproofed, and connected by consistent design. Two structures, two different configurations, one coherent result. The property's views — the whole reason for being there — are completely preserved.

The rooftop pool that finally has shade
A rooftop pool space, fully exposed, with the wind exposure that comes with elevation. Partial shade over the pool combined with a waterproof covered area for lounging — and the structure had to perform in a high-wind environment that most standard shade solutions aren't specified for. Unobstructed views were non-negotiable.
The iKOE 8×4 was specified to a high wind rating — meeting the wind class requirements for the elevated site. Partial coverage over the pool area was achieved with columns positioned away from the water's edge, cantilever arms extending over. The adjacent area received waterproof coverage for year-round usability.
The structure's engineering to AS4055 wind class standards wasn't just a spec requirement here — it was the enabling condition. Without it, the site wasn't viable for any permanent shade structure.
A rooftop pool that baked through summer is now protected for the hours that matter. Partial shade over the water, weatherproof coverage alongside it, unobstructed views maintained. The site's wind exposure is accounted for in the engineering — not worked around.

The caravan that finally has a home
A new caravan, no adequate shelter for it, and a space that a standard carport structure wasn't going to solve cleanly. No post in the line of travel. No obstruction when reversing in or out. Full vehicle coverage with a structure that looks like it belongs.

A shared pool environment where no post could go near the water's edge, and a coastal site with high wind exposure that required the structure to perform beyond standard residential wind class. The brief was precise: cover the pool. No footing in the pool area. No obstruction near the water.

The pattern across all six projects
Every one of these projects started with a constraint. No post on the slab. No connection to the roof. Non-standard dimensions. High wind exposure. A post-free pool edge. A caravan that needed to move freely.
In each case, the cantilever principle solved what conventional structures couldn't. Posts where they can go. Arms that reach the rest. Engineering that goes where others can't.
