Completing A Family Sanctuary In Windsor
Positioned in the popular lifestyle suburb of Windsor and set over three levels, this elevated block required designer shade structures to fully experience the captivating north easterly urban views overlooking the pool and huge backyard towards the Brisbane River beyond from their outdoor entertaining area
Our clients moved in summer and soon noticed a problem with their outdoor area; Whenever they went to enjoy time outside with friends and family, it was a short-lived experience due to the alfresco being too exposed to the elements. As a result, the children were at risk of being sunburnt when poolside, and the family couldn’t enjoy the mid-afternoon relaxation or afternoon drinks with friends without the suns harsh effects.
They quickly realised the need to transform their outdoor entertainment area for her and her family to create a space for comfort, relaxation and solace that was equally suited to casual weekly family dining and entertaining with friends over the weekend.
We found an opportunity to create an outdoor living room by protecting the alfresco from the elements with a modern shade structure, whilst balancing the indoor/outdoor harmony of their indoor living and linking the aesthetic to the rest of the property.
KOEDNs design team achieved this with our LUDA66+, a fully sealed waterproof shade structure that spans 36sqm across the deck area. The Luda integrated gutter and down-pipe system also act as a watering station for the side boundary landscape as the rain falls.
“We wanted to create an open outdoor area that didn’t compromise the view, and after exploring the options available to us, LUDAs cantilever structure was obvious”, explains Jane. “The customisable styling options made it feel like we were in the design seat and had control over the final aesthetic. The mustard colour roof membrane and white posts was just enough colour to show our personality, whilst balancing with the original scheme of the home.”
For the team at KOEDN, the project was a successful, collaborative union between client and product. “We love how closely we were able to work with our client and discuss ideas as their needs changed and grew,” says Lauren, one of the projects’ designers from KOEDN. “There was an organic flow of our input with the client, as the outdoor opportunities expanded with our range of shade products into the pool area, where we were able to offer sun protection and unobstructed views with our cantilever ikoe structure.”
